Two weeks ago I shadowed at a hospital in the county to see if I could imagine myself working in the ER department. I already interviewed a few days prior with some hesitation about the position, but after my shadowing experience I sent the recruiter an email officially accepting the position. The response I got that day was “Hi Max, thank you for the message. I will contact when I hear back from the leader”. That was two weeks ago. Despite two separate messages asking for an update on the hiring process, I got absolutely nothing from the department or from my recruiter on what was happening. After three days I mentally gave up on this position, as I obviously couldn’t imagine a positive working environment that began on a faulty base of trust and communication.
I thought that was the end of it, until I got this email today.

Now, I am not a violent man (as readers of the blog might know), but when I read this email I will share that a sundry of viscous acts came to my mind I thought appropriate for this recruiter. Keep in mind, I had already reached out TWICE to this man before he sent this email. His first contact with me after two weeks is not an acknowledgement of the wait or lack of communication or even my name but an email with a short rejection note like he’s out of free t-shirts at a basketball game. If you are my recruiter SK and have been with a hospital for 8 years(I looked at his LinkedIn) and have ascended(?) to the position of “Talent Acquisition” I hope, and daresay expect, you to be semi-capable of employing a base level of empathy to the people you talk to as part of your job. Now is it illegal to be uncommunicative and rude to potential candidates during the hiring process? No. But should it be illegal for me, in turn, to plant illicit content on his work computer and leave an anonymous tip leading to the collapse of his career and life? I’ll let you decide.
Here are some photos I took on a film camera Rai Ann gifted me.

Sorry you did not get the job.Love reading your Blogs and love you Bunny

Would be a shame if you could somehow find out when his next performance review is, befriend his boss before then, and casually drop info on this horrible experience you had and discuss how badly it reflected on the hospital…in turn causing his demotion which causes him to descend into a spiral, self-destructing his life…a real shame and not at all deserved.

Hi Max, Samantha had similar experiences while applying to jobs, prior to starting her own business. The same thing happened, though the responses she received might not have been as trite and disrespectful – close, though. My response to her and you is – you dodged a bullet. You probably wouldn’t be happy at a facility that has that kind of culture and hires people like that “Talent Acquisition” guy.
